What is Reflexology?

Reflexology Association of America (RAA) 2005:

n“Reflexology is the systematic, manual stimulation of the reflex maps located on the feet, hands and outer ears.”

The American Reflexology Certification Board in 2001:
n“Reflexology is a holistic energy-based modality, working through the energies of the nervous, electrical, chemical and magnetic systems of the body.

nIt utilizes manual techniques unique to the field of reflexology.  These techniques are applied to reflex maps resembling the human body, which are believed to exist on the feet and hands.”

How does Reflexology Affect the Recipient?

Recipients report a state of deep relaxation while receiving the treatment and subsequent relief from symptoms and discomfort.  Reflexology is great for aching feet or hands and feels great.

Reflexology affects the recipient in three general ways:  Firstly, there is a general relaxation response to the work.  This allows the body to relax which promotes balance and well-being.  Energy blocks in the human body respond as pressure techniques and relaxers are methodically applied to the zones with the intent of dissipating the energy blocks, breaking down crystalline structures, stimulating circulatory and lymphatic systems, and encouraging release of toxins.

Secondly, there are specific reflex effects.  For example, when the digestive reflexes are targeted, there is often a response of improved functioning  in the digestive system.  When the back and spinal reflexes are worked, many experience a positive response in their spine and back areas.

Thirdly, there is rejuvenation of the hands and feet when they are worked.  Hands and feet are used, and sometimes abused, by the many repetitive motions we humans engage in on a daily basis.  All of the reflexology seminars offered by Healing Arts Connection include self-help techniques that the reflexology practitioner can use for themselves as well as teach to the recipients of their services to enhance the effect of the reflexology sessions.

What are the Expected Benefits of Reflexology?

  • Reduce pain by releasing natural endorphins

  • Improve circulation of fluids & elimination

  • Normalize body functions

  • Improve sleep and quality of rest

  • Lower anxiety

  • Improve social interactions

  • Feel Better!

Reflexology ~ Feet ~ In this class, participants work with the zones as they are represented on the feet.  Various pressure techniques correlating with specific organs, bones and muscles are used. As these areas are being worked, the recipient will notice dramatic changes in the targeted areas which have been stimulated and supported to relieve blockages and return to their natural, balanced state thereby reducing stress and relieving pain.

This course introduces reflex points on the feet and participants are carefully guided in their efforts to learn the most effective methods.  This includes traditional reflexology as well as how to work more gently and energetically.  The "gentle" approach is particularly useful with infants and children, elders and those with health challenges.  Many find that a more "energetic" approach is just as powerful, if not more so, that the traditional pressure techniques.

Since participants practice on each other, they also benefit from two (2) days of reflexology therapy.  Participants will have an opportunity to practice and experience both traditional reflexology and gentle reflexology.

Reflexology ~ Hands ~

Your life is in your hands...take care of them!

The repetitive hand movements we all make everyday add up to stress in our hands and bodies.  Think of your daily routine and how much you take your hands for granted.  If you drive, hold a mouse and type, play a musical instrument, massage, write, chop, peel, knit, sew or use the telephone, your hands are engaging in repetitive movements that affect not only your hands, but your arms, elbows, shoulders, back, neck and eventually your entire body.

Work with your hands to increase your vitality and well-being no matter what you do on a daily basis.

In this one day, "hands-on" seminar, you will discover:

  • Simple ways of caring for your hands

  • Practical techniques for relieving pain

  • Location of reflex points on your hands

  • How to target specific concerns

  • How to use your hands for self-healing

  • How to provide hand reflexology to others

If you want relief now and resiliency in the future, make the investment of your time and money and  join us for this seminar.  You will not only learn how to help yourself, you will also learn how to help others.

Notes:
Reflexology

Kesselring, A. (1994). Fussreflexzonenmassage. Schweizerische Medizinische Wochenschrift - Supplementum, 62, 88-93.

Indications for and results of foot reflexology have been extrapolated from case-descriptions and two pilot studies with small samples. One study (Lafuente et al.) found foot reflexology to be as helpful to patients with headaches as medication (flunarizine), yet foot reflexology was fraught with less side-effects than medication. In a second study (Eichelberger et al.) foot reflexology was used postoperatively on gynecological patients. The intervention group showed a lesser need for medication to enhance bladder tonus than did the control group. The literature describes foot reflexology as enhancing urination, bowel movements, and relaxation.
