Deep Tissue Integration & Body Mechanics

Course Description

This course provides an opportunity for massage therapists to improve body mechanics, increase viewing efficiency in high-paced environments and work with the body’s natural structural alignment to improve client satisfaction. Concepts and techniques taught in this course may be used in spa or clinical settings.

 Topics:

  • Body mechanics  

  • Using soft fist, knuckles, elbows and ulnar blade as primary tools

  • Self-Care  

  • Viewing  

  • Deep Tissue Concepts  

  • Anatomy structure and function; Fascial concepts  

  • Application of clinical work in Swedish work  

  • Application of work in different settings  

  • Contraindications/Indications  

  • Pressure Scale  

  • Client-centered approach

Prerequisites: Massage Therapist, athletic trainer, physical therapist, or student or Instructor’s permission.  Healthy & capable of receiving and giving deep tissue massage.  Not recommended if pregnant.

CE Hrs: 24  

Fee:  $390/$350 Early Bird

Bring to class:

  • Two sheets, one bath towel, one hand towel;  

  • Viewing clothes: Women two-piece bathing suit, or sports bra and shorts; Men bathing shorts or sports shorts. Viewing shorts should be loose;  

  • Water bottle

Contraindications Contraindications are similar to those in general massage. However, the intensity of deep tissue work requires that a student/client is healthy and capable of receiving this work without harm. Specific contraindications to deep tissue include:

a.    Pain medications or muscle relaxants

b.    Decreased integrity in tissues

c.    Decreased integrity in joints

d.    Acute or unexplained health issues

e.    Psychological aversion to pain

f.     Pain, unmanaged or intolerable

g.    Decreased integrity of vessels or organs in the circulatory system

i.     Pregnant
